PGCE School-Based
PRIMARY PROGRAMME (TUITION ROUTE)
Aim High Academy Trust welcomes applications for 1 year Tuition School-Based Primary Programme in conjunction with Sunderland University.
We are an inspirational Trust which includes large and small primary schools and we aim to provide exciting and supportive training for students within our Aim High Trust schools and within other local schools who are part of our partnership.
What is PGCE School-Based?
PGCE School-Based is an approach to initial teacher training that allows schools to recruit their own trainees and share outstanding practice across our schools.
As a school direct trainee you are placed within one of our schools for the majority of the year with a short placement in an alternative setting.
Newbottle Primary Academy is the lead school in our training partnership and we also work across the following schools to offer school direct training.
Gillas Lane Primary Academy
Dubmire Primary Academy
Hetton Primary
Deaf Hill Primary
Kelloe Primary
All schools offer high quality teacher training experiences and work together to support teaching students within their schools.
About the course
Our PCGE School-Based Programme includes spending 4 days a week in one of our Academy or partner schools and one day a week studying at the University of Sunderland. The course is full time and runs from September until the end of June with the expectation that you will be part of the school teaching team for the full academic year from September until July. You will be allocated a mentor within school who will oversee and monitor your development and support you with effective classroom strategies to include observations, planning, classroom preparation, small group and whole class teaching responsibilities and assessment. Your mentor will also support you with guidance and feedback to enable you to reflect on your learning to date and allow you to develop further understanding of effective classroom practice.
